2021 has so many amazing books coming out this year that I could not contain them into one blog post. So, today’s is going to be about my most anticipated sequels coming out this year. I have found eleven books (I tried to get it down to ten, but I couldn’t!) that currently have release dates for this year most of which I have already preordered. This list is in order of release date and I am so excited to finally get to all of these.

Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas – 12^th January 2021

This is a prequel to Angie Thomas’s much-loved book The Hate U Give. This follows Garden Heights seventeen years prior to The Hate U Give. Maverick Carter is a family man who only knows how to take care of his family in one way: dealing with the King Lords. He’s got his girlfriend and his cousin to help him. Until he finds out he has a son. This finally gives him the chance to get straight, finish school and care for his son. But it’s not that easy to just walk away.

I love Angie Thomas’s book. They are so beautifully written it gives such an insight into different cultures. The Hate U Give and On the Come Up are such prominent books within the YA book community and I do think that everyone should read them at least once. Hopefully Concrete Rose will be as insightful as the other two novels which I am sure it will be as Angie Thomas has not let me down so far.

Liberte by Gita Trelease – 2^nd February 2021

This is the sequel to the book Enchantée (All That Glitters). I read the first book in this series when it first came out and I adored it. The setting was beautiful, and the characters were amazing. It follows Paris within the revolution Camille can change objects with magic. But when struggling to survive she decides to go for a bigger target. The court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. She is forced to change into a baroness she meets a group of inventors, but she struggles to keep a hold of herself in the process.

This book was so beautiful mainly because of the description of the beautiful Parisian setting. It was so interesting to see the comparison between that of the revolutionaries and the aristocrats. It has such a good family dynamic within it and that is hard to achieve so if you like books with that dynamic then you should check out this series. I really loved Camille and Lazare. They were not like your usual YA couple; they could hold a conversation that held meaning to it and their romance developed at such a good pace.

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas – 16^th February 2021

If you do not know about this one you have been living in a cave. This is the highly anticipated sequel to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. This book series surrounds the feys in their different courts. Feyre is dragged into this world after killing a wolf in order to help her family. This newest instalment is the first book in a side series based off Feyre’s sister Nesta and Cassian.

I loved this series when I first read it. I know it is currently receiving a lot of hype on BookTok as well as Instagram, but I can not remember much of it and I am hoping to reread it before getting to this one. Although it does have its issues, I do think this is a very good series and I hope I enjoy my reread and this newest book as much as I remember loving them.

Covet by Tracey Wolff – 2^nd March 2021

This is one of my most highly anticipated books. It is the third book in the Crave series which follows Grace after her parents die and she is sent to a boarding school in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. Here she meets Jaxon Vega, the guy that everyone looks up too. But the school is not what it seems, its full of paranormal creatures from vampires to werewolves to witches.

I am obsessed with this series. I read the first book in December and I have just finished the second book. Each book ends on a bigger cliff-hanger than the last and I think this is in the top two anticipated books. I love everything about these books, the characters, plot, humour, storyline. I hope this third book is as good as the last two.

Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo – 30^th March 2021

This is the sequel to the new Nickolai series by Leigh Bardugo. The first book in this series follows Nickolai three years after the events of Ruin and Rising. I’m not quite sure what else happens because I still have not read the first book in this series!

I anticipate anything that Leigh Bardugo brings out because she is my favourite author. Her Six of Crows series is my favourite books of all time and I know I will love this series as much as I loved her other books. Hopefully, I will be rereading her entire works at some point this year.

Skulduggery Pleasant Dead or Alive by Derek Landy – 1^st April 2021

Skulduggery Pleasant is a long series, and this is the fourteenth book in the series. This series follows skeleton detective Skulduggery and his sidekick Valkyrie Cain. Thrown into the world of elementals and adepts Valkyrie is forced to keep fighting evil one day at a time.

This series has been one of my favourites since I was really young. I am currently rereading all of them in anticipation for this one. This is the only middle grade book on this list, but I really do love it. It is a long series to start but I really recommend it. The humour is perfect, and the magic system is one of my favourites in books.

Oculta by Maya Motayne – 6^th April 2021

This is a Latinx inspired series following a girl who can change her face at will and a prince. The two have to team up in order to stop an evil that has been released on the world. After the prince’s older brother was murdered, he felt as though he could not live up to his older brother’s example.

I read this book a few years ago but I can not remember much about it. I do remember loving it especially the magic system involving the shapeshifting aspect. Before I read this book, I do plan on rereading the first book so that I can enjoy the sequel just as much. The whole world building in this book was beautiful and I can not wait to be thrown back into it again.

The Nobleman’s Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks by Mackenzi Lee – 27^th April 2021

This is the third book in the Montague sibling’s series; the first book following Percy and the second following Felicity. The final book in this series will be following Adrian Montague as he searches for his siblings. Siblings that up until recently he had no idea existed. As he goes to the Caribbean to seek the rest of his mother’s things after her death, he discovers his family tree.

I loved the Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue when I read it when it first came out. Then I was not as keen on the second book The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy. However, this book sounds like it has a lot of focus on Monty again who is my favourite character so I am hoping I will love this one as much as I loved the first.

Heartstopper Vol 4 by Alice Oesman – 13^th May 2021

Heartstopper follows Nick and Charlie two boys in High School who are trying to figure out who they are. Nick is the jock of the school and closeted from his family and friends whilst Charlie has just come out and is struggling to find his place. This explores their relationship from its highs and lows.

I love this series. It is so cute and easy to read. I like to read them as an escape, and it is so nice to read something so nice whilst everything is going on. I am currently working my way through Alice Oesman’s work and I am loving all of them. Hopefully this one is as good as the last three.

When Night Breaks by Janella Angeles – 24^th August 2021

The first book in this series follows a magical competition where magicians compete to earn a place as a headliner in the Conquering Circus. As each act becomes riskier the contestants struggle more. Especially when they start showing up maimed and injured. Kallia must figure out who is behind the injuries before she gets hurt herself.

I loved this book. It ended up being in my top ten books of 2020 and I can not wait for the next one to come out. The cover already makes me love it and the synopsis sounds amazing. The whole idea of the competition and the magic used throughout this book is beautifully written. The first book also left off on a cliff-hanger, so I need this book as soon as possible!

The Bronzed Beasts by Roshani Chokshi – 21^st September 2021

This is another third and final book in a series. This is the final book in the Gilded Wolves trilogy which surrounds a heist to find an artifact which an ancient order seeks. To do this Séverin the leader pulls together four unlikely people to retrieve it: an engineer, a historian, a dancer, and a brother. They explore the dark, wealthy streets of Paris in order to find it so that Séverin can retrieve his true inheritance.

I do not want this series to end. This is truly one of my favourite book series and I do not think it gets the hype that it deserves. I think this might be my most anticipated release this year.  Each book takes place in a different location which feels as though I am being transported throughout every novel to a different place. The first one takes place in Paris, the second in Russia and this third instalment will be taking place in Venice which sounds amazing. The last book ended on a huge cliff hanger and I cannot wait for this last instalment even though I do not want it to ever end. These characters are so special to me and make me love them each time I read this book. The romance is heartbreakingly beautiful, and the friendship dynamics are some of the best I have ever read. Also, this cover is beautiful.

I am really excited for all of these releases this year. It is such a great year for book sequels and I this is not even all of them! Some of them I am more excited for than others but they are all great series that I would recommend to everyone.
