Most Anticipated 2021 Sequels

2021 has so many amazing books coming out this year that I could not contain them into one blog post. So, today’s is going to be about my most anticipated sequels coming out this year. I have found eleven books (I tried to get it down to ten, but I couldn’t!) that currently have release dates for this year most of which I have already preordered. This list is in order of release date and I am so excited to finally get to all of these.

Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas – 12th January 2021

This is a prequel to Angie Thomas’s much-loved book The Hate U Give. This follows Garden Heights seventeen years prior to The Hate U Give. Maverick Carter is a family man who only knows how to take care of his family in one way: dealing with the King Lords. He’s got his girlfriend and his cousin to help him. Until he finds out he has a son. This finally gives him the chance to get straight, finish school and care for his son. But it’s not that easy to just walk away.

I love Angie Thomas’s book. They are so beautifully written it gives such an insight into different cultures. The Hate U Give and On the Come Up are such prominent books within the YA book community and I do think that everyone should read them at least once. Hopefully Concrete Rose will be as insightful as the other two novels which I am sure it will be as Angie Thomas has not let me down so far.

Liberte by Gita Trelease – 2nd February 2021

This is the sequel to the book Enchantée (All That Glitters). I read the first book in this series when it first came out and I adored it. The setting was beautiful, and the characters were amazing. It follows Paris within the revolution Camille can change objects with magic. But when struggling to survive she decides to go for a bigger target. The court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. She is forced to change into a baroness she meets a group of inventors, but she struggles to keep a hold of herself in the process.

This book was so beautiful mainly because of the description of the beautiful Parisian setting. It was so interesting to see the comparison between that of the revolutionaries and the aristocrats. It has such a good family dynamic within it and that is hard to achieve so if you like books with that dynamic then you should check out this series. I really loved Camille and Lazare. They were not like your usual YA couple; they could hold a conversation that held meaning to it and their romance developed at such a good pace.

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas – 16th February 2021

If you do not know about this one you have been living in a cave. This is the highly anticipated sequel to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. This book series surrounds the feys in their different courts. Feyre is dragged into this world after killing a wolf in order to help her family. This newest instalment is the first book in a side series based off Feyre’s sister Nesta and Cassian.

I loved this series when I first read it. I know it is currently receiving a lot of hype on BookTok as well as Instagram, but I can not remember much of it and I am hoping to reread it before getting to this one. Although it does have its issues, I do think this is a very good series and I hope I enjoy my reread and this newest book as much as I remember loving them.

Covet by Tracey Wolff – 2nd March 2021

This is one of my most highly anticipated books. It is the third book in the Crave series which follows Grace after her parents die and she is sent to a boarding school in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. Here she meets Jaxon Vega, the guy that everyone looks up too. But the school is not what it seems, its full of paranormal creatures from vampires to werewolves to witches.

I am obsessed with this series. I read the first book in December and I have just finished the second book. Each book ends on a bigger cliff-hanger than the last and I think this is in the top two anticipated books. I love everything about these books, the characters, plot, humour, storyline. I hope this third book is as good as the last two.

Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo – 30th March 2021

This is the sequel to the new Nickolai series by Leigh Bardugo. The first book in this series follows Nickolai three years after the events of Ruin and Rising. I’m not quite sure what else happens because I still have not read the first book in this series!

I anticipate anything that Leigh Bardugo brings out because she is my favourite author. Her Six of Crows series is my favourite books of all time and I know I will love this series as much as I loved her other books. Hopefully, I will be rereading her entire works at some point this year.

Skulduggery Pleasant Dead or Alive by Derek Landy – 1st April 2021

Skulduggery Pleasant is a long series, and this is the fourteenth book in the series. This series follows skeleton detective Skulduggery and his sidekick Valkyrie Cain. Thrown into the world of elementals and adepts Valkyrie is forced to keep fighting evil one day at a time.

This series has been one of my favourites since I was really young. I am currently rereading all of them in anticipation for this one. This is the only middle grade book on this list, but I really do love it. It is a long series to start but I really recommend it. The humour is perfect, and the magic system is one of my favourites in books.

Oculta by Maya Motayne – 6th April 2021

This is a Latinx inspired series following a girl who can change her face at will and a prince. The two have to team up in order to stop an evil that has been released on the world. After the prince’s older brother was murdered, he felt as though he could not live up to his older brother’s example.

I read this book a few years ago but I can not remember much about it. I do remember loving it especially the magic system involving the shapeshifting aspect. Before I read this book, I do plan on rereading the first book so that I can enjoy the sequel just as much. The whole world building in this book was beautiful and I can not wait to be thrown back into it again.

The Nobleman’s Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks by Mackenzi Lee – 27th April 2021

This is the third book in the Montague sibling’s series; the first book following Percy and the second following Felicity. The final book in this series will be following Adrian Montague as he searches for his siblings. Siblings that up until recently he had no idea existed. As he goes to the Caribbean to seek the rest of his mother’s things after her death, he discovers his family tree.

I loved the Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue when I read it when it first came out. Then I was not as keen on the second book The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy. However, this book sounds like it has a lot of focus on Monty again who is my favourite character so I am hoping I will love this one as much as I loved the first.

Heartstopper Vol 4 by Alice Oesman – 13th May 2021

Heartstopper follows Nick and Charlie two boys in High School who are trying to figure out who they are. Nick is the jock of the school and closeted from his family and friends whilst Charlie has just come out and is struggling to find his place. This explores their relationship from its highs and lows.

I love this series. It is so cute and easy to read. I like to read them as an escape, and it is so nice to read something so nice whilst everything is going on. I am currently working my way through Alice Oesman’s work and I am loving all of them. Hopefully this one is as good as the last three.

When Night Breaks by Janella Angeles – 24th August 2021

The first book in this series follows a magical competition where magicians compete to earn a place as a headliner in the Conquering Circus. As each act becomes riskier the contestants struggle more. Especially when they start showing up maimed and injured. Kallia must figure out who is behind the injuries before she gets hurt herself.

I loved this book. It ended up being in my top ten books of 2020 and I can not wait for the next one to come out. The cover already makes me love it and the synopsis sounds amazing. The whole idea of the competition and the magic used throughout this book is beautifully written. The first book also left off on a cliff-hanger, so I need this book as soon as possible!

The Bronzed Beasts by Roshani Chokshi – 21st September 2021

This is another third and final book in a series. This is the final book in the Gilded Wolves trilogy which surrounds a heist to find an artifact which an ancient order seeks. To do this Séverin the leader pulls together four unlikely people to retrieve it: an engineer, a historian, a dancer, and a brother. They explore the dark, wealthy streets of Paris in order to find it so that Séverin can retrieve his true inheritance.

I do not want this series to end. This is truly one of my favourite book series and I do not think it gets the hype that it deserves. I think this might be my most anticipated release this year.  Each book takes place in a different location which feels as though I am being transported throughout every novel to a different place. The first one takes place in Paris, the second in Russia and this third instalment will be taking place in Venice which sounds amazing. The last book ended on a huge cliff hanger and I cannot wait for this last instalment even though I do not want it to ever end. These characters are so special to me and make me love them each time I read this book. The romance is heartbreakingly beautiful, and the friendship dynamics are some of the best I have ever read. Also, this cover is beautiful.

I am really excited for all of these releases this year. It is such a great year for book sequels and I this is not even all of them! Some of them I am more excited for than others but they are all great series that I would recommend to everyone. Thank you for reading; please comment your most anticipated sequel down below and follow to find out my other anticipate books for this year!

Accidentally in Love by Belinda Missen Review

This book sounded like the perfect adult romance for me after loving the Flatshare by Beth O’Leary last year however, it just did not hit the mark for me. I do not know if I had too high hopes for it but I ended up not enjoying it which was really disappointing.

“I Love Postcards – It means someone’s thinking enough about me to want to share something with me.”

Accidentally in Love follows Katherine Patterson who has grown seemingly bored of her 9-5 life. After quitting her job surrounded by overbearing males and leaving her boyfriend she decides to move back home to Sheffield. She decides she’s going to finally open the art gallery that she has dreamed of since she was younger, and she has one artist that she has her eye on for the opening. Kit is a local artist, but his stubbornness and lack of communication is not what Katherine is after. But when the two seem to be attracted to more than each other’s work things begin to go wrong.

The book started out pretty strong in the beginning where there was a strong feminist theme with Katherine quitting her job because a male has got the position she is more qualified for the third time. The thing I loved most about this book was the references to Sheffield. I am from that area which was exciting to see within a book as it’s not a usual setting. It was the small details but Missen did such a good job of describing the area. There was a good sense of humour throughout the narration which did have me laughing out loud at some moments. Also the cover is so cute and adorable!

The thing I disliked the most about this was the romance. I just found that the communication between the two characters were lacking and I feel like Kit’s character started to rub me the wrong way. The development between the characters seemed rushed and the ending was so fast I could not quite believe I was reading it. It felt like all the conflict occurred within the last fifty pages which took me by surprise. I think that the romance did have somewhere to go but it just did not quite achieve it. The timeline got a little bit lost.

Overall I planned to love this book but it just fell flat for me. I ended up giving it a two stars for the humour and the location of Sheffield! I feel like if you do enjoy a fast, movie romance then this book is for you but I was hoping for a more of a slow burn romance.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book for an honest review!

Top Five Wednesday, Furry Friends

This is going to be the first post in my top five Wednesday series and I am so excited to start this little series! I joined the goodreads group which gives out prompts monthly for each Wednesday of the month and you choose five books that fit. I’ll link the group here if anyone wants some more information about the group: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/118368-top-5-wednesday . This weeks prompt is furry friends which is all about your favourite animals in books so today I will be discussing my top five favourite book creatures. These are just the ones I can think of I am sure there is more that I love but these are the five I came up with.

5. The Dæmons from His Dark Materials by Phillip Pulman

Art by: @KhaliaArt

I love the concept of the dæmons. During the series they are the physical manifestation of the characters souls. Even though they often have a form that they rely on they can adapt to their environment by changing into a different animal. They represent the characters personality and they share their emotions and traits. Dæmons are able to communicate verbally with their partner and other dæmons but should not be touched by other humans. I’d like to think if I had a dæmon it would be my rabbit which I would love to be able to communicate with.

Pantalaimon is the main dæmon in this series and I love him so much. He is extremely funny but also just a good addition to the book. He is the voice of reason to Lyra and has many forms like a puppy and a mouse but is mainly an ermine. I think without Pantalaimon I would not have enjoyed this book as much as I did.

4. The Direwolves from Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

Art by: @AlectorFencer

I loved the Direwolves in Game of Throne so much. They were such a good and interesting aspects in the show despite not appearing too often throughout. Direwolves are huge wolves that appear on the Starks coat of arms within the series. They are huge beasts and are extremely intelligent and have huge emotional attachments to their owners. Around the size of a small horse they are extremely loyal not only to their masters but to their masters friends. I would love a direwolf to follow me round and they look

During Game of Thrones there are six main direwolves after their mother is found dead at the beginning of the series. The six wolves are Shaggydog belonging to Rickon, Summer who belonged to Bran, Nymeria who belonged to Arya, Lady for Sansa, Grey Wind for Robb and my personal favourite Ghost who belonged to Jon Snow. The direwolves go on such a journey within the story and I love watching the scenes that they are in.

3. Mister Kindly from Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Art by: @Pinktofu_art

This is another form of daemon who is attached to Mia within the book. He is made out of shadows and takes the form of a cat although he is not truly a cat. During the book he helps Mia on her journey and adds a lot to the story. He is created by rage; Mia’s rage at the outcome of her family and then has remained with her ever since. By living alongside Mia he devours her fear so that she can not feel it and that is so interesting to read about.

He is very witty and clever within the book and is another voice of reason overall. I think the reason I love Mister Kindly so much is the way he interacts with Mia and also the quotes he comes out with are some of my favourite parts of the book. “…bravo…’ Mister Kindly said, ‘..if only I had hands to applaud..’ The cat is literally so sarcastic, and I love it so much.

2. Hippogriffs from the Harry Potter series

Art by: Jim Kay – Harry Potter Illustrated

I love the hippogriffs. So, so much. I would love to have one. It is half horse and half griffin. The body is that of a horse and its head is that of a griffin. It is covered in feathers and has talons for claws. Buckbeak is introduced in the third book and appears in the fifth book as well.

I like Buckbeak mainly because of how proud he is. He does not like insult, and he is extremely proud of himself. I love his loyalty to Hagrid and how he defends himself from Draco. I wish that he had been in the fifth movie and not forgotten about completely. I love the friendship which is formed between him and Sirius.

  1. Syrinx from House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
Art by: @_artjake_

Finally, we have Syrinx who I have grown to love this year. Syrinx is a chimera who has the appearance of a lion with wings and lives with Bryce within the book. She is best friends with Lehabah which I think is the cutest thing in the world. He often takes up residence within the library alongside the sprite which is just such a beautiful and cozy image.

The friendship between the two is the thing I love the most with these creatures. This image of the two within the library made me love this duo and Syrinx even more. I wish I could come home and find syrinx laid on my bed to lay with. He is the most beautiful creature which is why he is my top creature.

That was my first top five Wednesday! I hope you enjoyed and let me know which creatures you love in the comments! Thank you for reading and please follow down below. See you in the next one tomorrow!
